Lead Ruby Engineer
We are looking for a Team focused Lead Ruby Engineer to spearhead their team at a leading European gifting company.
Committed to building a team made up of different strengths, skills and experiences with a focus on learning and a growth mindset; made up of 6 cross-functional, Product Engineering teams, responsible for their own business and architectural domain and supported by in-house Platform, Architecture, Data and IT Teams.
Tech stack includes: Ruby and Rails and Python/ React, backed by PostgreSQL, Fargate/ECS on AWS, and Cloud Run on GCP. It exposes APIs that are used by our multi-brand Angular WebApp and native iOS and Android mobile apps. Potentially looking to develop new domain driven services & microservices where applicable.
Staff work flexibly and are based in the UK or The Netherlands. Teams meet in person at least once per quarter in order to maintain connections, collaborate on larger projects, connect and have fun together.
Responsibilities:
Active role in delivering the roadmap for your team and be a key part of our Engineering team. Including:
- Scoping ideas and collaborating with engineers, designers, product managers and stakeholders working together on what and how to build.
- Feature development ownership, from ideas through to production, release and maintenance, validating ideas and learning through an iterative approach.
Skills Required:
- 5 years (minimum) experience, with a strong history of developing and deploying successful web apps
- Open to using different languages and frameworks to complete task and assisting others to do the same
- Proficient in server-side development using Ruby and experience in front-end development in Angular or React.
- Experience in writing efficient SQL queries and database systems (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL)
- Experience working with AWS for cloud computing and deployment.
- Hands-on experience with RESTful APIs including building new ones.
- Quality mindset required, using techniques like test-driven development and testing tools RSpec/Cucumber.
- Understanding and prioritising version control and CI/CD and using industry recognised tools to follow them.
- Optimistic and positive mindset, able to overcome setbacks and obstacles and inspire and motivate others
- Solving complex problems with a collaborative, data-driven and experimental approach and able to foster this mindset in colleagues.
- Update to date with latest learning and technologies and happy to knowledge share with peers.
Advantageous:
- E-commerce or consumer facing fast growing start-up experience.
- Knowledge of distributed service architectures, including testing and release, how to ensure system stability when making changes independent of other services.
- Typescript experience.
